Overview

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a permanent pathway for skilled foreign workers and international graduates to work and live in one of the Atlantic provinces:

Eligible Provinces

  • New Brunswick
  • Nova Scotia
  • Prince Edward Island
  • Newfoundland and Labrador

Program Status

This program replaced the Atlantic Immigration Pilot in 2021 and is now a permanent immigration pathway.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Work Experience (Skilled Worker Stream)

  • At least 1,560 hours (one year) of paid work experience in the last five years
  • Experience must be in TEER 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4

2. International Graduate Stream

  • No work experience required
  • Must have completed 2 years of study at a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada
  • Must have lived in the province for at least 16 months during the last 2 years of study

3. Job Offer Requirements

  • Full-time, non-seasonal job
  • From a designated employer
  • Job must be in TEER 0–4 and match the applicant's ability

4. Language Requirements

  • TEER 0–3: CLB 5
  • TEER 4: CLB 4

5. Education Requirements

  • Foreign education requires an ECA (unless graduated in Canada)

6. Proof of Funds

  • Required unless already working in Canada with a valid work permit

Application Process

Get a Valid Job Offer

Secure a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the Atlantic provinces.

Employer Obtains Provincial Endorsement

Your employer must obtain a provincial endorsement certificate from the province.

Submit PR Application to IRCC

Submit your permanent residence application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

4

Optional: Apply for Temporary Work Permit

You can apply for a temporary work permit while your PR is being processed.
